Homemade Bisquick

***THE SUGAR IN THIS RECIPE IS OPTIONAL***
4-1/2 cups all purpose flour
2 Tablespoons sugar
1 teaspoon cream of tartar
2-1/2 Tablespoons baking powder
1/2 cup powdered milk
1-1/2 teaspoons salt
1/2 cup shortening
Mix all ingredients until well combined. Add the shortening and mix in with a stand mixer, hand mixer, two knives, pastry blender, blending fork or regular fork. Mix until thoroughly combined. Store in an airtight container for 3 to 6 months in pantry or refrigerator. For longer storage, store in the freezer.
